Sims Cooper made his transition at home as he slept peacefully on March 4, 2008. He was born on November 6, 1925 in Bessemer, Alabama. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy after 20 years of service, retired from Baptist Medical Center after 26 years; lastly, he worked part time for 8 years at Winn Dixie on Moncrief Road. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debora Cooper-Downer. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Daisy Hayes Cooper; daughter, Rev. Patricia Cooper, Fairburn, GA; grandchildren, Anthony Downer, Patricia Downer and Gregory Hicks; niece & nephew, Phillis and Phillip Nelson; a devoted sister-in-law, Mae Kate Shannon and a host of family and friends.
