Rosalind Strickland Owens passed away on March 1, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida after extended illness. 

She was born to Jefferson Mitchell Strickland, Sr. and Helen Virginia Parks in Irvine, Kentucky. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Irvin Matthew Owens, Jr. 50 years of wedded bliss.  After his passing, she moved to Jacksonville from Louisville, Kentucky where she lived with her daughter and family. 

 

She belonged to St. Stephen Church in Louisville until she joined First Baptist Church of Mandarin under the guidance of Reverend Gary L. Williams, Sr.

 

She is survived by 3 children, Robin Owens-Railey (Ottis), Frederick Mark Owens, James Mitchell; “adopted” children and family: Robert, Vanessa, La’Kesha and Ra’mon Skaggs; 4 grandchildren, Kentario Quentay Railey, Courtland Michelle Railey, Christiana Michelle Owens, James Mitchell Owens, Jr.; great grandchildren, Kentario Roshad Railey, Tyriek Deandray Railey, Trey Desmond Richardson-Railey; 3 siblings, Anna Lee Gay, Raymond Hume Strickland, Nathaniel Strickland; nieces and nephews, Sharon Gilbert, Juan Strickland (Barbara), Jefferson Strickland, III, Michelle Reid (David), Nathaniel Owens, Darrell Owens, Brothers-in-law, Henry Arthur Owens, Terry Owens; and a host of loving family and friends. 

Affectionately known as “Rose”, she had a kind and generous spirit. She was a loving mother with strength unknown to many.  She had an unwavering faith until the very end.  She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
