Pearl
Marie Anderson Horne-Askew was born September 3, 1919, she went to her heavenly
home on October 12, 2008. Pearl Marie was the second born of the eight children
of Major I and Minnie Anthony.
She is
survived by her beloved brother, Major Anderson, III, a resident of Washington,
DC, sister-in-law, Edna Niblack, a resident of Alachua, FL; children, Patricia
Anita Horne Cushman, Houston, TX, Alphenia Marie Horne Woods-Shine (Michael),
Port St. Lucie, FL, Alphonso Lamardo Horne II (Piko), Jacksonville, FL, and
Alfonso Horne, Sr.
As a
teacher in the Jacksonville Public School System, she taught in several
elementary schools for over 30 years. Many of her students affectionately
remember her as "Mrs. Horne". She continued her education to earn a Master's
Degree in Education Administration from Florida A & M University. Additionally,
she also tutored piano lessons to a number of students.
She was a
faithful member of Second Missionary Baptist Church with District 18. In
particular she was the musician for the Male Chorus , Sunday School, Noon Day
Prayer, member of the Mass Choir, and finally Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart,
FL. Her organization membership include: "Live Long and Like It", Jacksonville's
Senior Citizens, and Retired Teachers of Duval County.
