Mrs. Matilda Winifred Jackson Ellison passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Thursday, March 20, 2008.

She was a well-known educator, excellent and devoted teacher and loved by all students.   She received her B.S. degree from Hampton University in Virginia and she began her teaching career in Manatee County, Bradenton, FL.    She taught for over 30 years in Duval County at Susie E. Tolbert, Merrill Road, and ended her career at Forest Hills Elementary.

A member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, the Reverend J.W. Rigsby, Pastor.  She is survived by her devoted and loving husband William  Ellison, two wonderful sons Dr. Dennard Ellison (Paula) and Corey Ellison (Adrienne). She was devoted to her family and she constantly spoke of her six grandchildren, Lauren, Tamia, Alexis, Daryn, Sydney and Devin Ellison.  You could hear the love in her voice as she spoke of their accolades and accomplishments in ice skating and tennis.  She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Oda Mae Jackson, her brothers Alonzo Jackson and Charles Jackson (Phyllis).  She will be fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.  

She was a beautiful person devoted to family, friends and all her students.

Among the devoted friends are Hazel Brown (William), Louise Daniels, Forrestine Donalson, Elizabeth Nesmith (James).
