Grace Mathis was born on March 12,1931 in Waycross, Georgia to Robert and Annie Thompson, both of whom preceded her in death. Grace was educated through the Duval County public school system.

She met and married Julius Mathis, Jr. who preceded her in death after 53 years; they had 9 children.

After pursuing an education in the medical field, she was employed and retired from Memorial Hospital after 20 years of service.

She accepted Christ as her personal savior at Phillippians Community Church on Clyde Drive in the early 80’s. She later attended Revelation Deliverance Temple where she served as the Presiding Mother until the Lord called her home.

Grace was a longtime resident of the Eastside. She had a kind loving heart and a warm spirit. She was well known for her great hospitality and being an excellent cook. She had an open door to those who crossed her path and provided meals, constant words of encouragement and finances to those in need.

She leaves to cherish her memory 9 children; Charles (Doris) Washington, DC, Lorene (Mitchell), Loretha, Miami,FL, Julius III (Ethel), Beverly (Byron), Robert (Juana), Jacqueline, Anthony Sr. (Marilyn) and James; 30 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Orine Wilkerson and Alvena Starks; 2 sisters-in-law Shirley Munford and Cora Gatlin; 1 aunt Henrietta Wolfe; 2 uncles Hoover Haynes and Quincy Haynes; many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and a host of good friends.
