Mrs.
Evelyn B. Williams, a daughter given by God to Lucas and Lula Brown, was
born in Pensacola, FL on July 28, 1919. She attended Washington High of
Pensacola, FL and was a member of the girls basketball team.
She met and married Nathaniel Williams, who preceded her in death. They later moved to Jacksonville, FL, which became their place of residence.
Mrs. Williams was a member of Greater Payne A. M. E. Church. She was one of the founding members of the Incomparable Ladies Social and Saving Club, which is now known as the Incomparable Ladies. It was organized in her home on February 8, 1972. She retired from Universal Marion Corporation in Jacksonville, FL in the early 80’s.
She was known for her sense of humor, style and grace. She was also known for her creative styles of decoration and the showcasing of many styles of fashion, including clothing and hats provided by Ivey’s Department Store and Catherine’s Stout Shop.
As her health began to fail, she never stopped caring and praying for others. She later became known on the radio station as "Mother Williams, a friend and prayer warrior to many."
Evelyn Williams heard the call from God on Thursday April 3, 2008 at the Heartland Health Care Facility, under the care of Northeast Florida Community Hospice.
Mrs. Williams was predeceased by her husband, Nathaniel Williams. She leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted care giver, daughter, and son-in-law, Mary Fowler (Donald); adopted daughter Shirley Pollard; adopted brother, Edward Smith; brother-in- law, Sammy Williams (Emma); sister-in-law, Louise Rutledge; grandchildren, Anthony Fowler (Alfreda), Sheran E. Fowler and Aaron Joiner; goddaughters, Carla Simmons and Annie Andrews; godson, Gerald DeSue; 5 great grands, 3 great, great grands; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Special friends, Hope Bayes, Grace Chambers, and Anne Evers.
