God in his infinite wisdom called Aritha Whitty to eternal rest on April 9, 2009 in Jacksonville, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Whitty, Sr., daughter, Mary Alice Whitty, parents, John Wesley and Mary Gay, two sisters, Cosie Brunson and Johnnie Mae Williams-Robinson ; brother, Necodia Gay , Aunt Idella Williams.

Her memories and legacy of love will live on through her seven children, James H. (Lola) Whitty, Jr., St. Augustine,FL., Patricia A. Whitty (Joe), John W. (Glenda) Whitty, Bobby G. (Renee) Whitty, Gwendolyn (Alphonso) Whitty - Goggins, Jacqueline A. (Lucius) Lattimore, Fred B. (Scarlet) Whitty, all of Jacksonville, FL.; Twenty-two grandchildren, Thirty-eight great grandchildren and One great-great grandchild ; Sisters-in-law, Laura Greene, Clara Whitty, Elouise Whitty, Jacksonville, FL, Louise Whitty, West Palm Beach, FL., Grace Sparrow, Stuart, FL., Thelma Whitty, New York,NY, Jerusha Whitty, Elmira, NY.; Brothers-in-law, Nathaniel Whitty, Fort Pierce, FL.,and Will Whitty, Columbia, SC. Goddaughter, Regina Woodward, a host of nieces, nephews and sorrowing friends that will all miss her dearly, among them special friend, Mrs. Mozell Dicks; neighbors, Alice Carswell and Wendy Ross.
